Oven Light and Lens: Bulb, Cover and Power
A dark Viking oven in an Edmonds kitchen is usually a bulb an owner can change, and the model's own guide says which bulb, so a careful check can save a visit.

Changing the bulb on a Viking gas self-clean range
The steps from Viking’s Professional gas self-clean range guide:
- Switch the power off at the main fuse or circuit breaker, with the oven cold.
- Unsnap the glass cover at the end opposite its metal hinge.
- Grip the old bulb firmly and pull it straight out.
- Fit a 64405 12V-5W bulb, holding it in a soft cloth.
- Slide the cover into its metal hinge, then snap the other end closed.
- Restore the power.
The service manual for those ranges shows the lamps as halogen, run from a transformer.
Other Viking ovens
Wall ovens differ. The service manual for the VESO5271 family lists a 20-watt bulb for the top light, behind a cover that is prised off carefully, and 5-watt bulbs for the side lights. Other generations use other lamps, so read the bulb off your own model’s guide before buying.
Keeping the cover clear
Clean the glass cover only when the oven is cold, with warm soapy water on a soft cloth. The products kept off the porcelain enamel around it stay off the glass too.
When a new bulb does not help
A correct bulb, properly seated, that stays dark with the power back on points upstream: the switch, the wiring, the transformer on halogen models, or the oven’s electronics. That is Viking oven repair, and if the fault reaches the control, the price is set by the control board or touch panel band.

- Why should I not touch the new bulb with bare fingers?
